Settle marks the start of the widely acclaimed Settle-Carlisle railway, 72 miles of track passing through some of England's most dramatic scenery. Malham, just of the tops, has much to offer walkers. You can visit Malham cove and the National Park Field Centre or nearby Gordale Scar. Why not see the countryside on horseback? Ingleton, ten miles North, famous for its waterfalls, also has an outdoor swimming pool. Nearby are the well-known white scar caverns - a fascinating underground wonderland. Skipton, 16 miles South, with its well-known Castle, canal trips and good shopping, also has a bowling alley, cinema and swimming pool. It is a charming historical Dales town with a market four days a week. The is so much to see in the beautiful countryside. Within an hour's drive is Hawes - famous for its rope-making workshops and the Wensleydale cheese factory (both open to the public) with its lovely restaurant. Drive on the Askrigg falls and Castle Bolton in beautiful Wensleydale. And only one hour from the famous lake-district in Cumberland. |
